Buddha Pournima

ATTA DIP BHAVA .BE A LIGHT UNTO YOURSELF !!

This was the message given by Gautam Budha in 6 th century BC .This is the way to solve our problems , suffering and purpose of our life. On the auspicious day of VAISHAKHI POURNIMA, Sidharthh was born . Vision of his life was clear from his childhood incidences.

While travelling in a forest, he found Swan bird was wounded due to arrow struck to him. He got worried for a innocent bird . This was the sign of non violence which later became basic tenets of his philosophy.

Later ,many incidents pave the way for journey of Sidharth to BUDDHA. He was against the war between two republics for Rohini river. After which he relinquished all pleasure and wealthy life .Later, he realized there is sorrow, suffering in everyone’s lives. He wanted to find the real cause of suffering and eradicate the suffering. For that he wandered and took shelter with prevalent philosophical schools but could not achieve the goal.

Finely, he decided to find the cause of suffering own his own . For that, he sat for meditation under Peepal tree(Bodhi tree) . After , mediating continuously for 49 days ,he found the real cause of suffering. He realized desire (trishna ) was the ultimate reason for suffering. He gave us path to liberate from suffering and to conquer our mind.. This enlightenment day was also on Vaishakhi pournima.

He gave us Panchshil and eight fold paths (ashtang marg) to remove suffering. He empasised on Pradnya(knowledge), Character(shil) , Compassion (Karuna). He himself was compassionate person that’s why he act to eradicate suffering from others lives also.

Right vision (Samyak drishti ) was one of the eight fold paths that is neceesary to conquer our mind . Now, what is Samyak drishti ? .It is the ability to keep eye on our mind, to be vigilant about thoughts that arises in our mind.. It is the ability to watch the thoughts. It is the state of mindfulness .Controlling the thoughts can help to stop our desire. Because ,mind is the place where everything occurs first.

For achieving this state of mindfulness, meditation is the way. He never said that I am liberator (mokshdata) rather he said I am path shower( margdata) . He propagated his ides through Pali the local dialect. .So, the common people could understand easily and Sanskrit was monopoly of Brahmins .So, there is no need of any intermediary.

This was revolutionary thing that change the religious sphere in India and open the door of liberation to all irrespective of class. Therefore, it is considered as revolution event in the Indian history. Many kings patronized Buddhism. Emperor Ashok is one who propagated ideas of Budha extensively in India and other country like Srilanka .

His philosophy was based on purity of mind that will bring happiness for all. Today his philosophy was not only practised in India but also in the most part of the world.

His message of ATTA DIP BHAVA is torch bearer for us.. So don’t depend on others . Find your own path ,on your on because no one knows you better than yourself.

May on ths auspicious day of vaishakhi pournima Budhas message will help us to remove suffering.

LEGACY OF SUNDERLAL BAHUGUNAJI

 LEGACY OF  SUNDERLAL BAHUGUNAJI

After death of a person ,what left behind is not his / her property, wealth but his / her legacy, contribution to the nation building . Sunderlal Bahuguna was a great nationalist , pioneer of environmental movement in India,  who left such a legacy of environmental conservation.

He was a  follower of Gandhian ideology .Base on it , he started  chipko movement in 1973 in Uttar pradesh (now Uttarakhand). First ,he convinced the villagers about importance of the trees  and their role in ecosystem balance . The movement was a non violent movement against deforestation in Himalayan region. Chipko literally means to hug the trees. Most important feature was women’s participation. Many women hugged the tree and said cut us before cutting the trees.

Due to large scale opposition  , government has cancelled the deforestation and put deforestation  moratorium for fifteen years  .   He forced us to remember the Indian culture of nature worship  and he became protector of Himalaya .This movement shaped the later environmental policies in India  and also influence the world.

Along with these , he also raised his voice for empowerment of women and untouchables.

His contribution will remain evergreen and will  always show us  path of sustainable development .Our political leadership should pay tribute to him by strengthening the environment laws like EIA(environmental impact assessment).

Now its our time to save our mother earth because

Son of mother earth: has left us  but not his legacy .
