WORLD
ENVIRONMENT DAY 5TH JUNE
Earth is the only habitable
planet which has been supporting life from millions of year .
Nature has given us number of thing including sun light, clean air,
water ,food and many things. Despite of this we failed to protect our earth,
environment.
Due to our greed
we have exploited environment indiscriminately. Global warming, water scarcity (cape town
city in Africa), droughts, frequent cyclones wild fires , pandemic like COVID, SARS, are consequences of it. Even snow cover is
melting which is causing rise of sea level. Threatening number of lives
All these calamities
force us to redefine our role,
our definition of development.
To bring awareness about protection and conservation of our mother earth. June 5th
is recognized as world environment day.
A micro virus of Corona has taught a lesson to the whole world . It halted
the speed of development . When the world was in lock down mode , nature was cleaning herself. This we
witnessed from clear blue sky during lockdown.
PRAKRITI RAKSHITI
RAKSHITA
Nature protects
if she is protected
This Sanskrit shylok gives a message of respecting and protecting our mother earth, biodiversity.. If we protect her then only morally we can ask our earth to protect us. So we have to change our method of development
Redirecting our path to sustainable
development:
Afforestation For sake of our development we have killed
number of forest. Now ,we should along
with development must focus on massive afforestation. Because trees are the
lungs of earth.
Agriculture. We have to move from water demanding plants
like sugarcane toward water saving
plants. We have to adopt
Ragi ,JOWRY. so that ground water
table should not decrease rapidly. We have to also adopt organic farming, zero
budget farming etc . So that environment safety along with food security will ensure.
Energy Energy is main engine of development.
Without it we can not perform any activities.
Fossil fuel are helping us to meet this demand but simultaneously
increase carbon footprints. Hence we have move from fossil fuel to non
fossil fuels like solar wind, geothermal energy.. proviosns under paris
agreement and international solar alliance are right steps
Transportation of goods , raw material and human being is essential for economic growth, but this transportation is one of the main causes of air pollution.Cities like Delhi are facing this issue. Hence electrical vehicle, upgrading of engine from BS IV to BS VI is welcoming steps. Metro rails are also helping to reduce Green house emission. Waterways are cheap and clean source of transportation Where ever possible we should develop them
3R
principles .
3R Indicating reduce, recycle, refuse. Wherever possible adopt this. Plastic pollution is also on challenge which
affecting soil, marine ecosystem as well. So
we can reduce or refuse plastic wherever possible.
We measure economy on terms of GDP . Now it’s the time to measure it in
terms of green gdp .
Now its time to act. Every nation should
move toward its sustainable path. Every
nation should adopt good governance practices so that it will bring sustainable development.
In this journey every citizen ,society ,institute, government should contribute
honestly
Role
of social institutions:
Family is the first place where we
learn values. Our parents should become
harbinger of virtue like environment conservation, sanitation.
School If young minds train at early stage, then they will turn into green warrior to protect our environment, All this efforts will help to start journey from citizen to green citizen.
Indian tradition of conservation
India has great legacy of nature
protection. It is the land where civilisation took birth. Nature worship was prevalent from Indus
valley civilisation . In Vedas there are
many hymns dedicated to nature, nature worship was characteristic of early
Indian society. Great emperor Ashoka ordered massive plantation, prohibition of
animal slaughtering. Which is considered as pioneer of state sponsored environmental policies . To protect this
legacy , we have included nature conservation in our constitution as well.
Because of our ancestors efforts to
protect nature ,today we live easily . So it is our moral duty to pass the nature
to future generations.. and bring perpetual happiness to the society.
